The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has officially unveiled new uniforms for its Customs Services Department as part of preparations for the forthcoming World Customs Organization – West and Central Africa (WCO-WCA) expert meetings and conference scheduled to take place from May 4 to 8 at the Freetown International Conference Centre. The unveiling ceremony, held at Customs House in Cline Town, was led by the Commissioner-General, Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, who described the new uniforms as a powerful symbol of discipline, unity, and institutional identity.
“This initiative reflects the Authority’s continued drive for professionalism and improved service delivery. A well-presented workforce strengthens public confidence and supports revenue generation through improved compliance,” Mrs. Bangura stated. She emphasized that the introduction of modern and stylish uniforms forms part of broader institutional reforms aimed at modernizing the Authority, strengthening internal cohesion, and enhancing its public image. She also commended Customs officers for their dedication and resilience, noting that their consistent commitment remains central to the NRA’s success in revenue mobilization and border management.
The event brought together Customs personnel from key operational points across the country, including the Gbalamuya border crossing in Kambia District, the Jendema border in Pujehun District, Queen Elizabeth II Quay, and the Freetown International Airport. These frontline officers play a critical role in safeguarding national borders, facilitating trade, and ensuring effective revenue collection. Speaking on behalf of the Customs Services Department, Commissioner Tennyson Bio welcomed the initiative, describing the uniforms as more than just attire. “They represent pride, unity, and professionalism.
They strengthen our identity in the field and enhance our interaction with the public,” he said. Mr. Bio added that the uniforms will improve staff visibility, reinforce institutional credibility, and deepen public trust in customs and tax administration. He noted that the initiative aligns with efforts to project a coordinated and strong institutional presence ahead of the regional conference. As Sierra Leone prepares to host delegates from across West and Central Africa, the NRA reaffirmed its commitment to institutional reform, effective revenue mobilization, and service excellence under the leadership of Mrs. Bangura.
