SCCA Calls for National Unity and Environmental Protection as Sierra Leone reflects on the National Peace and Cohesion event held on 26 and 27 October 2026, Shout Climate Change Africa (SCCA) emphasizes that lasting peace, national unity, and environmental protection must go hand in hand for the sustainable development of Mama Salone, the land we love. Peace is essential for national development, but sustainable peace goes beyond the absence of conflict. It requires unity, mutual respect, responsible leadership, and a collective commitment to protecting the well-being of citizens. Equally important is the environment in which people live, work, and raise their families. SCCA believes that the nation cannot fully enjoy peace when it faces persistent flooding, deforestation, pollution, poor sanitation, and other environmental challenges that threaten their lives and livelihoods.
A safe environment is a foundation for a peaceful, healthy, and prosperous nation. The organization calls on political leaders, government institutions, civil society organizations, the private sector, young people, and ordinary citizens to work together in protecting both national peace and the natural environment. Political differences should not prevent cooperation on issues that affect every Sierra Leonean. SCCA also looks forward to seeing His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, and His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, share a platform to raise national awareness about environmental protection. Such an initiative could demonstrate that safeguarding the environment is a shared responsibility that transcends political affiliations.
As the nation promotes peace and reconciliation, SCCA urges leaders and citizens alike to translate their commitments into practical action through environmental education, responsible waste management, forest conservation, mangrove restoration, and stronger community participation in climate action. The message is clear: peace must be protected, unity must be practiced, and the environment must be safeguarded. National cohesion becomes more meaningful when citizens can live in safe communities and enjoy a healthy environment. Shout Climate Change Africa calls on all Sierra Leoneans to unite for peace, protect our environment, and secure a sustainable future for Mama Salone the land we love. NO SAFE ENVIRONMENT, NO SUSTAINABLE PEACE!
