January 30, 2026 | The View, Freetown The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has intensified efforts to improve tax administration through enhanced collaboration with commercial banks operating in Sierra Leone. The Commissioner General of the NRA, Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, on Thursday engaged representatives of commercial banks in Freetown to review existing partnerships and explore measures to strengthen cooperation in support of efficient revenue administration.
During the engagement, Mrs. Bangura commended the banks for their significant contribution to the achievement of the Authority’s 2025 revenue targets, describing the banking sector as a critical partner in national revenue mobilization. She emphasized the importance of fully implementing the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the NRA and commercial banks to ensure smoother operations and improved service delivery.
Discussions focused largely on enhancing the integration of the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) with banking platforms. The Commissioner General noted that improved system connectivity would help reduce transaction delays, promote transparency, improve real-time reporting, and enhance the overall taxpayer experience. She also highlighted existing communication gaps between the NRA and the banking sector, calling for strengthened information-sharing mechanisms to address operational challenges and improve coordination.
Commissioners from the Authority’s key operational departments shared insights on practical steps to improve collaboration and streamline tax payment processes. Speaking on behalf of the commercial banks, the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Commercial Banks, Mr. Mohamed Alhaji Samoura, reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to continued cooperation with the NRA.
He assured the Authority of the banks’ readiness to support initiatives aimed at strengthening tax administration and improving revenue collection systems. The meeting concluded with a joint commitment by the NRA and commercial banks to deepen collaboration, enhance system integration, and improve communication, in line with shared objectives of efficiency, accountability, and sustainable domestic revenue mobilization.
