Crow Bay Community Highlights Sanitation Gains, Seeks Support from NGOs and Development Partners

By Josephine Sesay

The CRS Organization in Crow Bay has reported significant progress in its ongoing sensitization campaign aimed at improving sanitation and reducing flood risks within the community. During a recent engagement, campaign members outlined key achievements, noting that sustained public awareness efforts have led to a noticeable decline in indiscriminate waste disposal. Through consultations with community stakeholders, residents have increasingly adopted responsible waste management practices, particularly by avoiding the dumping of refuse in gutters and public spaces.

Organizers stated that these efforts are already yielding results, contributing to improved drainage and a reduction in flood risks, as community members take greater responsibility for maintaining their environment. The group also unveiled plans to expand its outreach through intensified awareness campaigns, leveraging media platforms and collaboration with local leaders to further educate residents on disaster prevention and appropriate emergency response measures.

Despite the gains, the organization acknowledged that sustaining and scaling up the initiative will require additional support. It appealed to international and local non-governmental organizations, development partners, and philanthropists for financial and technical assistance, emphasizing that community-led efforts alone are insufficient to address the broader challenges.

Campaign leaders further called on other communities across Freetown to replicate similar initiatives, stressing that collective action remains essential in addressing environmental concerns and reducing disaster risks nationwide. As the rainy season approaches, stakeholders say the Crow Bay initiative stands as a strong example of the impact of grassroots engagement, while highlighting the critical role of partnerships in building resilient and sustainable communities.
