VP Juldeh Jalloh urges focus on PR merits as constitutional reform debate continues

Sierra Leone’s Vice President Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh urges citizens: weigh Proportional Representation merits while constitutional reform debate continues. He says broader political inclusion and stronger women’s representation remain key goals. Speaking at closing reflections on Day Two of the National Unity and Social Cohesion Conference 2026 at Bintumani Conference Centre, Dr Jalloh said addressing exclusion and strengthening public trust are essential for lasting peace and national cohesion. He emphasized that inclusive governance requires institutions allowing citizens meaningful participation in decisions affecting them. Exclusion from decision-making or denial of justice makes trust harder to build, he noted.

Dr Jalloh encouraged stakeholders to look beyond political disagreements and consider how constitutional arrangements can support a more inclusive democracy. He placed particular emphasis on women’s representation and ensuring more voices are heard in national decision-making. The conference, themed “From Agreement to Action,” brought national leaders and stakeholders together to discuss peacebuilding and democratic governance. The Vice President’s call underscored the need to turn reform discussions into practical steps that strengthen representation, trust, and national unity.
